Many of our patrons will remember former educator Connie Martin from her previous visit, when she shared replicas of her grandmother Lizzie’s quilts. These quilts helped guide freedom seekers as they navigated their escape to freedom from 1850 to 1865. She is back to share the definition of a Negro Spiritual.
Connie will tell fascinating stories and recollections of the songs and their embedded meanings. Many of these songs were used by her ancestors, and she may even invite the audience to join her in singing.
After her presentation, Connie will answer questions and take comments. It is sure to be a crowd pleaser!
